Children's Corner

Children’s corners were established in a number of libraries like Kabale, Paidha, Kampala, Nakaseke, Jinja, Mbale, Tororo, Soroti, Zigoti, Moroto, Mbarara, Masindi and Hoima with the support of Book Aid International as our development partner. Each of the selected libraries received 2,500 books from the United Kingdom and the libraries that didn’t have children’s sections improvised and established such sections ideal for children’s reading in the library.

Children’s corners increased library usage by over 60% as families picked more interest in using libraries and their services for example, at Paidha public library, mothers can now sit in the library with their young ones and fins themselves reading as well.

Initially, adult readers found it hard to share library space with children but since the inception of children’s corners, there is an ease and more appreciation for libraries and their services. A good example is at Kabale public library where a parent who is also a university lecturer now finds it easy to use the library with her son and carry on with her work without interruption while her son busies himself in the children’s corner.
