Inspiring readers(IR) is a project that was funded by Book Aid to reachout to 250,000 children in 7 countries that include Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe in 52 public libraries to 310 primary schools. Book aid provided 356,500 books from UK and also purchased 31,000 books, it also trained 104 librarians, 620 teachers and 310 head teachers.
In Uganda, IR was funded by Book Aid in partnership with National Library of Uganda, it is in five Public Libraries that is Kabale, Masaka, Mbale, Jinja and Moroto. Libraries were to be established from the selected five schools from each district.
More than 1000 books, cup boards were to be provided, training of two teachers and one headteacher was to be done.
Inspiring readers is aimed at:
· - Increasing access to reading and learning materials and receive increased support from teachers who are better able to promote reading,
· - Encouraging children to grow in their love of reading and their confidence in learning,
· - Fostering collaboration between teachers and librarians to support children’s learning.
